Small Business Awarded $24.3M Navy Contract

The U.S. Department of Defense announced various contracts, including a $731.9 million award to Carnegie Mellon University for the operation of the Software Engineering Institute.

Virginia-based small business Trident Systems will be awarded a $24.3 million contract for basic and applied research of airborne data link communications systems and components.

According to the DoD, “This effort will increase the effectiveness of small airborne systems by providing actionable real-time situational awareness information to the warfighter.”

More than $2 million in fiscal 2015 research development test and evaluation funds will be assigned with the award, none of which will expire at the end of the 2015 fiscal year.

The cost-plus-fixed-fee Navy deal was competitively acquired thorough a broad agency announcement.

The majority of the labor (71 percent) will be performed in Fairfax, Va., with the remaining work taking place in Raleigh, N.C.
