The Patuxent Partnership has selected AVIAN LLC as the 2014 member of the year. The announcement was made Tuesday to a crowd of more than 300 members and guests at the partnership’s annual dinner this week at Historic St. Mary’s City.

The partnership selects one member company that exemplifies commitment to the community and support for Patuxent River Naval Air Station, according to a statement by Bonnie Green, executive director of The Patuxent Partnership.

An active member of the partnership for seven years, AVIAN was nominated for award based upon the company’s performance, its support of the The Patuxent Partnership mission, its internal and employee culture, and the company’s and employees’ involvement in community affairs and volunteer activities.

“The Southern Maryland region has something unique,” Kevin Switick, an owner and president of AVIAN, said in a statement. “My competitors are also my friends. We are friends who share a common goal — advancing our community. I am honored to receive this award among friends that I respect.”

AVIAN has experienced consistent growth during the past 10 years and has ranked on the Inc. 500|5000 list of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies for the past five years. In 2014, AVIAN won two prime contracts supporting the Office of Naval Research, Sea Warfare and Weapons and the Naval Air Systems Command, Airborne Electronic Attack Program Office, according to the partnership. The company continued to experience growth in its workforce development and training division, created more than 30 customer-unique training courses and instructed more than 150 classes to about 3,500 students at 14 client sites.

AVIAN was recognized by the secretary of defense for the company’s support of its National Guard and Reserve members as a nominee for the Employee Support Freedom Award in 2012 and 2013, and was the recipient of the Above and Beyond Award in 2014.

In 2014, AVIAN supported more than 25 nonprofit organizations dedicated to youth development, military and veteran affairs, the arts, health and wellness, recreation, environmental and community enhancement. AVIAN chooses organizations to support based upon input received from its employees.

“Each activity the company participates in contributes to the future business environment within the Southern Maryland and technical Patuxent River markets,” Switick said.

“Our company’s success over the years can be attributed to our desire to provide positive experiences for employees and customers, rather than merely creating a business transaction,” he said. “As a services company, our best attribute is our people.

“We believe in supporting the Southern Maryland business community and increasing employment opportunities and job growth for all St. Mary’s County residents through new ideas, strong community involvement, and robust employee professional development programs,” Switick said.
