Merkerson Named Small Business Acquisition Advocate of the Quarter

Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville Office of Small Business Programs recognized Timothy Merkerson as the Small Business Acquisition Advocate for 4th Quarter FY15.

Merkerson is currently a purchasing agent for NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Detachment at Naval Station (NAVSTA) Mayport, and maintains a Level II certification in the Acquisition Career Field of Purchasing.

Merkerson has made significant contributions to the NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Office of Small Business Programs providing notable opportunities to small business concerns throughout the region. During his five-year tenure, Merkerson has awarded hundreds of contracts and task orders to support NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville customers, to include Trident Refit Facility, Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic, Trident Training Facility, Commander Submarine Squadrons 16 and 20, Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Commander Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Ga., Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Goose Creek, S.C., and Naval Activity Puerto Rico.

His current responsibilities include providing supplies and services in support of 17 ships based at NAVSTA Mayport.

Merkerson displays pride in his profession and consistently solicits small business concerns using best value to promote maximum opportunities from a variety of categories including Service-Disabled Veteran Owned, Hub Zone, Small Disadvantaged Business, and Women Owned small businesses.

From July through September 2015, Merkerson awarded the highest number of actions and largest dollar amount of simplified acquisition awards within NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville.

Merkerson is commended for his perseverance, knowledge, and commitment to supporting small business acquisitions and is fully deserving of the award of NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville Small Business Acquisition Advocate of the Quarter.
